dimensions variable, 2025.
Exhibited at Sichuan Fine Arts Art Museum, Chongqing, China.
Exhibition and Winner of the 12th Wuliangye Tomorrow Sculpture Award - Annual Award
The Dough's Noise is a large-scale work produced by Ningyue on site at themuseum. She kneads the dough to merge her body with the giant corner, and imagines that the entire architectural space has evolved into her giant kitchen, with the wall imagined as the kitchen countertop.
The work is inspired by Ningyue's personal reflections on the fluidity of identity through her studies and life changes, and uses ingredients and even dough as sculptural materials through the healing that comes from cooking. She uses the dough and keeps stretching and expanding the small dough.
Just as she has been travelling between London and Shanghai in recent years, the geography of her travels has brought her thoughts about the body and identity, which are breaking down the boundaries and expanding. She uses flour from different origins (cultures) in China and the UK, mixed with specially formulated eggs, sugar and water, to knead and cover the space with her body. With the passage of time, Ningyue did not treat the work too much, but allowed the crust to crack, calcify, fall and break over time. Therefore, viewers entering the exhibition can not only smell the aroma of the dough being cooked, but can also enter into Ningyue's work and listen to the sound of the dough tearing and falling over time.

Unseen Cooking (performance)
30mins, 2025.
During the opening ceremony, Ningyue invited two janitors who had beencleaning the gallery while she was making the work to cook it. She also became a janitor and further weakened her identity as an artist into the work. The aroma of the dough fills the huge gallery as it is cooked with a hot air gun. At the moment, cooking is filling the place in an invisible way.
